Saranya : A charcoal burner to a Entrepreneur

Saranya (Age 27) has grown up in an unstable environment where she has been seeing her parents arguing all the time. Her parents were charcoal burners who worked hard to earn bread for their family. Since Saranya’s father has illegal relationships with other women, one day her mother caught her husband red-handed. As she was not able to handle the pressure she pouredcooking oil on herself and burnt herself to death.

When Saranya returned from her school (she was still only 14) she saw burning flames coming out of her home where she found her mother in midst of the fire. It was too late for Saranya to rescue her mother.

A week after Saranya mother’s death her dad marry another women. Saranya found it difficult to be with her step mother because she tortured her mentally and physically. By the timeSaranya was17 years old she was longing for love and affection from people around her. She found her soulmate and she eloped, married and they now have two children. Saranya has only known charcoal burning and she works hard with her husband but they struggle to feed their kids.

That’s when Institute for social awareness and rural development found Saranya and enrolled her in the Tailoring training program. After 6 months now she has her own sewing machine .Also she now hasa good job in one of the many local Garment making companies.She is now half-time self-employed too so she is overjoyed to have become an independent women who can support her family emotionally and financially.
